Best Five Home Remedies for Food Poisoning


As we are human being, by nature we love foods and drinks. We can’t stop ourselves to avoid them when we saw mouthwatering things to eat. Food poisoning is the common illness to all of us. Food poisoning can be defined as illness caused by bacteria or toxins due to the consumption of contaminated foods or drinks. Sometimes taking of wrong medicine also leads to food poisoning. Few names of bacteria which cause food poisoning are Salmonella, Listeria, E.coli, Campylobacter etc.

Some remedies we can take at home for food poisoning are:

To avoid from stomach pain and inflammation: Some fruits and vegetables such as apple, ginger, banana and lemon are used to avoid from stomach pain and inflammation. Make a juice for ginger and mix with a spoon of honey and drink it. It will lower down stomach pain and inflammation. Lemon is also very useful because of its high acidity which kills micro-organisms in our gastrointestinal tract. You can also drink apple juice, banana shakes to reduce the effects of food poisoning. Taking juice and shakes will help in lowering pain and stomach.

To avoid from Dehydration: Dehydration is one of the common symptoms of food poisoning, in such situation need to drink plenty of fluids mainly water. Also, drink Oral Rehydration powder mix with water to avoid from dehydration. It will safe from dehydration, vomiting and diarrhea. Oral dehydration powder is easily available in Chemist Shop. It is good to drink electrolytes which are rich in potassium and sodium to avoid from dehydration and vomiting. Take electrolytes to recover from dehydration. It can be applied 3-4 times in a day to get good results.

To avoid from Fever: Keep wet cotton or small towel in your forehead; neck or other area of your body to lower down the body temperature. Taking a bath with lukewarm water also helps in lowering body temperature but don’t take bath in cold water but don’t bath often during fever. Drink a cup of ginger tea to induce sweating. Sweating also helps in lowering body during fever. Drink ginger tea 2 0r 3 times during fever to induce sweating.

To avoid from vomiting: Drink little amount of water. Don’t take any solid foods until vomiting stops. You can eat bread; apple; bananas and biscuits which have salt taste. Drinking soda like Coca Cola and other soft drinks also help in avoids vomiting. Don’t take solid foods while vomiting.

To avoid from frequent food poisoning: At home it is very important to take care while food processing, storage and preparation to be safe from frequent food poisoning.  Don’t eat street foods or drinks frequently. Environment also plays an important role in causing food poisoning. Keep the environment especially kitchen neat and clean to avoid from food poisoning.

Don’t take any medicine before the medication of doctor. If none of the above mentioned remedies are supportive at all than immediately consult a doctor.
